SVEN-GORAN Eriksson’s is already planning for next season – with Gilberto Silva one of three players being lined up by the Manchester City boss.
The Swede has identified Arsenal midfielder Gilberto, Lyons playmaker Juninho and Celtic’s Aiden McGeady as possible summer targets.
He has long-been linked with Gilberto, who he believes can add some much-needed steel to his midfield, with Dietmar Hamman nearing the end of his playing days.
Juninho would take some of the creative burden off Elano, while attacking midfielder McGeady could cost as much as £12m to prise away from Celtic Park.
Eriksson believes he needs to strengthen his squad if City are to push for a Champions League place next season – as well as cope with an expected run in Europe, should they finish fourth or qualify for the UEFA Cup.
He was hoping to improve their chances of beating off competition from Liverpool, Aston Villa and Everton for a top four finish this term by making several additions during the January transfer window.
But he admitted to being surprised by how difficult it was to conclude deals midway through the season and therefore wants to conclude the majority of his business during the summer next time around.
