Stoke will be without Matthew Etherington after he picked up in a knee injury in Saturday's FA Cup clash between the same two sides, although the extent of the problem is still unclear. The 28-year-old went for a scan on Monday morning and manager Tony Pulis is hopeful the midfielder will be out for weeks rather than months. Andy Wilkinson (ankle) and Liam Lawrence (knee) also took knocks but should be fit while Abdoulaye Faye (back) is fit and in contention.

Roberto Mancini is facing a severe shortage of players for Manchester City's Barclays Premier League trip to Stoke on Tuesday night. Carlos Tevez has been granted leave to return to Argentina for family reasons and is definitely out, with Craig Bellamy (knee) and Vincent Kompany (groin) set to join him on the sidelines. In addition, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Stephen Ireland and Martin Petrov all suffered knocks against the same opposition at the weekend and could miss out. Adam Johnson does return after being cup-tied for the fifth-round tie against the Potters at the weekend.
