Manchester City have appealed against the red card shown to Vincent Kompany during their FA Cup clash with Manchester United on Sunday.
The Blues skipper was dismissed just 12 minutes into an eagerly-anticipated third-round tie at the Etihad Stadium.
Referee Chris Foy deemed his challenge on United winger Nani to be reckless, and he was given his marching orders.
City were disappointed with the decision at the time, with a numerical disadvantage costing them dear as they slipped to a 3-2 defeat.
An appeal has now been lodged, with City set to be made aware of the Football Association's decision before a midweek outing against Liverpool.
"City have lodged an appeal with the Football Association relating to the red card issued to Vincent Kompany during Sunday's FA Cup tie with Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium," read a statement released on the club's official website.
"The FA have confirmed that a hearing will be held ahead of Wednesday evening's Carling Cup semi-final first leg at home to Liverpool."
