Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini felt City matched United at Old Trafford and were unlucky to go out of the Carling Cup.

The Blues lost 3-1 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate after Wayne Rooney's injury time header. Earlier, Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick put United in command before Carlos Tevez pulled a goal back.

Mancini said: “I am very sorry for the players and the supporters because we played very well and at the same level as United.

“We had a big possibility to go to the final. We were only under pressure for 10 minutes. We were very unlucky. But that is football.

“I can only compliment my players. We have another trophy to aim for and maybe we can win the FA Cup.”
